Classes and Dual Enrollment Program

Credits and Classes

The Rudsdale academic program is designed to meet graduation requirements as well as provide students opportunities to take elective, credit recovery, and/or support classes. Unlike traditional schools, Rudsdale’s students must complete 190 credits in the appropriate coursework.  To maximize our effort and accommodate students who are enrolling on an ongoing basis, our program is on a trimester system (12 week cycle). Students can enroll within the first 6 weeks for full credit or within 9 weeks for partial credit.    Each trimester, students enroll in 3 academic classes (10 credits each) and 1 advisory class (5 credits) and 1 elective class (2.5 credits).   In addition, students may take elective classes as part of the after school program. The enrollment of students ebbs and flows as new students transfer in throughout the year, and students graduate in November, February, and May.

Duals Enrollment

The OUSD Dual Enrollment (DE) Program is open to all 9th-12th grade students at OUSD High Schools. The college courses are Peralta Community College courses offered at 13 high school sites across the district and are taught by Peralta College instructors with OUSD staff as support staff in the classroom. Courses are held during the school day and others are offered after school. Students receive both high school and college credit, and courses are completely free to students--students do not pay tuition/fees, books, supplies, or any costs associated with the college course.  In passing the DE course with a C or higher, students receive a GPA boost on their OUSD transcript.  With college costs at both public and private colleges across the nation reaching all time highs and the student loan debt crisis, DE is particularly important for students and families to save their time and money.

Rudsdale High School is currently the only continuation high school within OUSD with a DE program. Our DE program began in Fall 2023. In Spring 2024, Rudsdale was awarded the Golden State Pathways grant from the CA Dept of Education so that Rudsdale could expand its DE program for subsequent years  Rudsdale has offered a variety of classes including Adobe Photoshop Basics, Emergency Medical Responder, English for Job Search and English Language Skills for Technology.
